The separation of their parents when they were still very young was the reason why celebrity siblings Yassi and Issa Pressman became very close to each other.
Both born in Hong Kong, the two lived with their father growing up while their mom worked abroad. Their parents eventually parted ways, which was a turning point for Yassi.
“Naalala ko nagpapadala ng balikbayan box si mommy. Lagi kaming excited. Hanggang sa dumating na sa point na ayaw ko na ng box. Gusto ko na siyang bumalik. 'Yung moment na 'yun, umiiyak ako tapos nakita ko siya (Issa), umiiyak na din siya. Hala anong gagawin ko dito sa batang ito? 'Yun na ang moment na sabi ko kailangan ko na maging ate. I have to be there for her,” Yassi shared when they appeared on “Magandang Buhay” together.
True to her word, Issa said Yassi stepped up to become not just her sister and best friend but also like a mother figure to her.
“My sister kasi is very responsible. The first memory na mayroon ako nung bata ako was her being responsible na talaga. She’s very smart and very independent. As a younger girl naman, kailangan ko ng guidance and support. I always got that from her,” she said.
Despite having a broken family, both Issa and Yassi do not hold any grudge towards their parents.
“Naniniwala kasi ako na some people, they are meant to fall in love. Pero minsan, they are not meant to stay together forever kasi kapag pinilit mo rin, hindi maganda ang nangyayari. They are both happy now and lahat kami masaya. Parang wala ng dark cloud sa amin. Lahat okay,” Yassi explained.
Issa, however, turned emotional when asked what she would like to tell her sister, who is two years older than her.
“Dad wants us to be happy in everything that we do so siyempre, I promise you that I will support you with whatever makes you happy. She deserves all of the happiness in the world. She’s a very beautiful person inside and out,” she said.
Yassi promised the same thing.
“Katulad ng dati, from the very start, whatever you need, sana alam mon a hindi mo kailangan magtanong. Alam ko na lahat halos dahil sobrang kilala kita to the bone. Lahat ng gusto mong gawin, susuportahan ko. Kailangan mo lang sabihin sa akin. Gusto ko lang masaya ka always,” she said.
